Lycoming Law Association Foundation Awards Grants

Several law-related projects received grants in the latest round of grant awards announced by the Lycoming Law Association Foundation.  The foundation, at the recommendation of the Lycoming Law Association's Community Activities & Outreach Committee, awarded funds to Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) of Lycoming County, Susquehanna Home Care & Hospice and North Penn Legal Services for law-related projects that will benefit the people of Lycoming County.

CASA was awarded $1,250.00 for the purchase of a computer system and related software.  CASA provides trained volunteers to advocate in the best interest of abused and/or neglected children for the purpose of placing them in a safe, nurturing, permanent home.  The grant was accepted on behalf of CASA by Judy Jones, CASA Program Director and Diane Glenwright, YWCA Executive Director.

Danna Rich-Collins, office manager of North Penn Legal Services accepted its grant of $2,200.00 for videography services in connection with the preparation of a customized Lycoming County Child Custody Video. This educational video will help prepare unrepresented indigent clients for custody hearings by acclimating them to the judicial process, and in so doing will benefit the already burdened legal aid community and courts so that they are better able to serve this client population.

The Foundation awarded Susquehanna Home Care & Hospice $250.00 for the purchase of several reference books to be used by nurses in the Nurse-Family Partnership providing education and guidance to low-income single mothers and fathers, and couples in personal health, life-course development, environmental health, child safety and quality infant or childcare. The reference materials requested are to be used in providing nurses with general information so that they might provide sound “lay” advice and information on the steps necessary for these families to achieve desired outcomes. Joni Todhunter, Coordinator of the Nurse-Family Partnership, accepted the grant check.

The Lycoming Law Association Foundation provides funding for worthwhile law-related community projects and activities that cultivate the science of jurisprudence, improve the legal and judicial system and facilitate the administration of justice for residents of Lycoming County.
